Lemon Basil Seed Drink

A refreshing lemon beverage made with soaked basil seeds, perfect for hydration and curbing appetite.

  • 1 teaspoon basil seeds (tukmaria/sabja)
  • 1 cup cool water (for soaking)
  • 1 cup cold water (for mixing)
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon (about 1 to 2 tablespoons)
  • 1 teaspoon sweetener (honey, maple syrup, or stevia, optional)
  • Fresh mint or basil leaves (optional, for garnish)
  • Ice cubes (optional, for serving)

Instructions

  1. Rinse the basil seeds under cool water using a fine mesh sieve to remove any dust.
  2. Combine the rinsed seeds with 1 cup of cool water and let sit for 8 to 10 minutes.
  3. Mix 1 cup of cold water with the juice of half a lemon and 1 teaspoon of sweetener if desired; adjust to taste.
  4. Add the hydrated basil seeds to the lemon mixture and stir gently.
  5. Serve chilled with ice cubes and mint leaves if desired.

Notes

For best taste, sip within a few hours. Use stevia for a low-calorie option.
